Can you shoot laser beams out of your fingertips? w/[personal profile] detechs

[Skye was at low on the totem pole when it came to anything SHIELD related, hell, she wasn't even a level one agent yet. But at least Coulson kept her and the rest of the team informed as much as he could. Ward and May knew the most though, what with being level sevens. Today they were bringing in a new member of the team, and while Skye had stood back while an android named Connor was introduced to the team. She watched in awe as a member of Cyberlife showed off some of the features Connor was capable of.

It was easy to forget that he wasn't human because he looked so real and not wanting to overwhelm him with all kinds of questions that she was dying to ask, Skye, hung back for a while. But the moment things had calmed down, well, she pounced at the chance. So while he seemed to be just looking around and taking things in, Skye came up beside him.]

First time on a plane?

[She's trying not to be so obvious, but probably doing a terrible job of it, while she tries to inspect a bit more closely. Looking for anything that would make him look less human, but aside from the circle on his temple, she can't seem to find anything.]

( The RK800 Connor model is the promise of a powerful partnership, the advent of artificial intelligence given fingertips. He knows this - and as he analyzes each human that approaches him, he comes to know what makes this partnership so weighted. SHIELD is a hotbed of intellect and action, with a diversity that both enables and hinders it from challenge to challenge. He is here to provide stability, a resource that spares time and expense in the field. Understanding their interpersonal dynamic, their enthusiasm for his presence or lack thereof, all lends itself to a conclusion. Forming a set of social directives to remove inefficiency as he engages with higher ranking members.

She is not a data point in that conclusion. She is negligible.

Still, when she speaks, Connor turns his head smoothly, a crooked tug of a closed smile. His inhumanity is detectable in the finest details. The lack of hesitation in his movements, no boredom or internal monologue on display in expression. Pleasant, observant, and blinking just the right frequency as to avoid an uncanny valley. Most wouldn't see the ways he can't bridge the gap. She's making small talk. His fresh off the line social programming craves the learning these conversations give him. He scans her face for identification as he replies - )

In a way. ( This body can go where he is not. Worth a small fortune, yet - disposable. Replaceable. ) I was not activated during my transport.

( There's a shallow pinch of his brows, a tip of his head, just only slightly. Little movements to punctuate processing time. Question buried under question, he prioritizes. )

No. ( There's a helpful pep to his reply, like he's quite proud of the fact - ) I can operate in the field wireless for well over a human lifetime if I am undamaged and efficient. Activation during transport is notably inefficient.

( A two in one answer; truly he is the prodigal toaster of CyberLife. An awkward silence follows, gazing down at her for another blink, then scanning across the room and back in what could pass for distraction. Reading the room for important faces, details. An overpriced security camera, his vision will also offer CyberLife low resolution memory files of attendees. He doesn't abandon the line of questioning entirely, returning to eye contact. Unwavering and focused, punctuated by a painfully inaccurate attempt at an ice-breaking smile - pulling uncertainly, then a bit wider, then vanishing.

Cringeworthy. Biomechanics is still an imperfect science. )
