Working this closely with the Avengers was something Skye still wasn't used to completely. Being in the same room with them at first made her internally scream. Although she was slowly getting used to walking into a room and seeing someone like Captain America in there.
Finding the bus a lot more quiet to focus on, Skye took a seat on one of the tables and went to work on her computer. Although she was distracted when she saw Steve Rogers enter the room.
"Hey. What's up?"

The Avengers aren't perfect by any means, but they didn't violate the Geneva convention at seemingly every opportunity or kidnap each other so he felt okay about telling them what to do occasionally. Read: when someone comes up with the bright idea to illegally lock suicidal prisoners in solitary confinement or fail to get appropriate medical treatment for someone. You know the little things.
It's little surprise he gets along with Skye so well really. He never has to be the guy to point out she can't do xyz. She just does her job nobly and responsibly. No lectures required. Maybe that's why he feels comfortable asking for this particular favor. "Do you mind helping me with a side project?"

"Oh." She quickly closes her laptop, arms resting against the top of it as she swings her legs lightly back and forth.
"What kind of side project?" She hadn't expected him to come to her about whatever it was. Although the two seemed to get on pretty well, part of it possibly being that they were both New Yorkers. Skye had noticed that, when she moved out to California in particular, people acted differently. Sometimes it was nice to have that familiarity. Even if her memories of the city weren't always good ones.

He clearly doesn't want that. Steve works his jaw a moment before continuing. "I've watched you. You don't kill your problems. You try to help. That's all I'm asking for."

"Considering that's what I did most of my life was searching for people, I think I can help." Coulson would probably not be happy about this. Which is why she asks.
"I'm assuming that Coulson doesn't know about this...?"
