PSL w/Joric PT.2
[The big thaw has finally happened, and when Joric returns for lunch after working all morning he'll hear Daisy out back. Giggling in response to Astrid's squeals of laughter as she pets Harry, who in turn nibbles at her hand.]
She doesn't have anything for you.
[She tells the goat, who keeps searching Astrid's hand regardless.]

What's this? Is Harry bothering her?
[ There had been some debate on whether Harry would sense more Daisy or more Joric in Astrid and would adjust his like or dislike accordingly. ]
no subject
No. She loves him.
[Beaming at Joric she moves towards where he is at the gate.]
Hi.
[Carefully leaning over the fence she kisses his cheek.]
We've been out here for a bit. She likes the sun.
no subject
[ He takes Astrid's tiny hand in his for a moment. ]
She will be the outdoors type, won't she?
[ Not that his people don't spend plenty of time outside as it is, but some prefer staying in by the fire to being out in open air. ]
no subject
If she's anything like her father, I have no doubts.
[Harry has wandered over, still stubbornly believing that Astrid must have something for her. But because she's out of reach he starts nibbling at Daisy's skirt. He usually does that when she's taking too long to refill their feed. Adjusting her hold on Astrid, Daisy bats idly at Harry to let go of her skirt.]
Everyone is always so hungry around here.
[It's a joke not only at Harry's expense, but Joric and Astrid's as well.]
no subject
[ He smirks at the scene, but is ready to come into the pen if Harry won't stop bothering her. ]
Though I'll have to take Harry's word that your skirt is delicious.
no subject
[Daisy says dryly.
Sally gets involved by headbutting Harry. Daisy had been quick to notice how Sally had become protective over Daisy when she was pregnant, and it's only gotten more severe with Astrid around. As if she understood.]
Good girl.
[She coos at Sally, petting her head before taking the opportunity to leave the pen.]
Lunch is ready inside. Unless you want to eat out here?
no subject
[ And since Daisy has come out of the pen, he reaches out to take the baby into his arms. He hoists her up high with hands under her armpits. ]
Won't you?
no subject
I’ll go grab it.
[And it will be a lot easier now that both her hands on free.]
no subject
[ He brings Astrid back down into his arms and moves to sit beside the fire pit. It's not alight at the moment, but it's probably the best place to eat while the ground is still soggy.
It's easy to see the ease with which he carries his daughter and think that parenting has been easy so far, but it's been anything but. People have been helpful, but without his own parents around anymore to ask, every step has been a learning experience with intruding thoughts that he's doing it wrong. He sits Astrid on his knee and bounces her, to her delight. But he knows how swiftly her mood shifts and whenever crying starts he has to run through the checklist in his head of what might be wrong. Luckily she's satisfied for the moment so he hopes she stays that way as long as possible. ]

It takes Daisy a minute to come outside, having to tuck some things under her arms as she pushes the backdoor open. With the warmer weather finally here, Daisy didn't exactly feel like spending much time by the fire. So she made sandwiches and grabbed the pitcher of sun tea she had left outside.]
Someone's having fun.
[Daisy says with a smile plastered on her face as she spots Astrid on Joric's lap. She could watch them interact all day.]
no subject
[ Because he has a great deal of fun watching Astrid be amazed and amused by everything the world has to offer. Moving an arm around her middle to hold her upright, he then reaches for a sandwich. ]
By the way, do you need anything from the market before it closes for the day? I can bring it back after work finishes.
no subject
[Daisy says, taking a seat next to him. Smiling at the way Joric holds onto Astrid. He’s become so confident with her, and Astrid clearly loves being close to Joric. Who is currently looking up at Joric as he eats his sandwich.]
More soap, and cloth for diapers.
[She reaches out to grab hold of Astrid’s hand, gently wiggling it.]
But I can go, the day is too nice to stay inside anyway.

[ He's never lived in a safer place in his life. Okay, the avalanche was a fluke, but beyond that, he never has to worry about being away from Daisy and Astrid because of the tight knit community they live in. Were this a large city he'd always have a worry in the back of his mind about them being in danger when he can't be with them. Probably some new parenting fear mixed with his protective nature, not that he realizes it. ]
Though I'm sure the trip is twofold. You need goods, yes, but you want to show her off to everyone there too.
no subject
You can hardly blame me.
[She lets go of Astrid's of hand after a moment, instead cooing out...]
Look at how cute she is.
no subject
She gets it from her mother.
no subject
We’ll go after lunch. Do you need anything?
no subject
[ He sticks out a foot to show his bootlace is getting too short from bits breaking off and he can barely tie a knot anymore. ]
I can't think of anything else.
[ And speaking of buying things... ]
I have work lined up for awhile, so don't worry about the cost of things.
no subject
Has Harry been chewing on them?
[She teases, glancing at him in his pen where he's currently gnawing at some grass.]
Oh? What will you be doing?
[Daisy knows he likes feeling useful, but she does hope he's not going to run himself into the ground.]
no subject
[ He takes a big bite of his sandwich and talks around the mouthful. ]
Building a barn. Should take a few months.
no subject
Whose barn is it?
[She asks, not voicing her concerns that maybe he's taking on too much.]
no subject
[ One of Joric's friends, though he lives out on a farm so they don't always get together as the man is busy with running the farm. ]
We have to do it bit by bit since he has no where else to keep the animals in at night.
no subject
I'm sure he's happy to have a place to put them that's more organized.
[Daisy says, glancing briefly at Astrid and smiling in amusement as she raises her fist to her mouth to chew on it.]
Is this the only job you'll have until it's over?
no subject
[ It's all he can manage to say with his mouth full again. He bounces Astrid on his knee as he chews and she laughs happily, arms flailing. Once he swallows, he adds, ]
So I won't be coming back midday to eat for awhile.
no subject
Taking another sip of her tea before setting it down beside her, her expression falls a little. Ever since he started working again, she’s enjoyed seeing him at lunch.]
Then I guess I’ll have to start packing you your lunches. You can’t work on an empty stomach.
no subject
[ He can see and hear her mood drop a little at this information, but it can't be helped. As long as he has the strength to work, he wants to. The pension helps and is there to reward their country's soldiers whether they come back injured or not, but it's not a hefty sum. He wants their family to have all they want. ]
It's only a few miles off and there are many here who can help you if there's any trouble while I'm away.
[ In case that fact worries her. ]
