PSL w/Joric PT.2
[The big thaw has finally happened, and when Joric returns for lunch after working all morning he'll hear Daisy out back. Giggling in response to Astrid's squeals of laughter as she pets Harry, who in turn nibbles at her hand.]
She doesn't have anything for you.
[She tells the goat, who keeps searching Astrid's hand regardless.]

[ He's never lived in a safer place in his life. Okay, the avalanche was a fluke, but beyond that, he never has to worry about being away from Daisy and Astrid because of the tight knit community they live in. Were this a large city he'd always have a worry in the back of his mind about them being in danger when he can't be with them. Probably some new parenting fear mixed with his protective nature, not that he realizes it. ]
Though I'm sure the trip is twofold. You need goods, yes, but you want to show her off to everyone there too.
no subject
You can hardly blame me.
[She lets go of Astrid's of hand after a moment, instead cooing out...]
Look at how cute she is.
no subject
She gets it from her mother.
no subject
We’ll go after lunch. Do you need anything?

[ He sticks out a foot to show his bootlace is getting too short from bits breaking off and he can barely tie a knot anymore. ]
I can't think of anything else.
[ And speaking of buying things... ]
I have work lined up for awhile, so don't worry about the cost of things.
no subject
Has Harry been chewing on them?
[She teases, glancing at him in his pen where he's currently gnawing at some grass.]
Oh? What will you be doing?
[Daisy knows he likes feeling useful, but she does hope he's not going to run himself into the ground.]
no subject
[ He takes a big bite of his sandwich and talks around the mouthful. ]
Building a barn. Should take a few months.
no subject
Whose barn is it?
[She asks, not voicing her concerns that maybe he's taking on too much.]
no subject
[ One of Joric's friends, though he lives out on a farm so they don't always get together as the man is busy with running the farm. ]
We have to do it bit by bit since he has no where else to keep the animals in at night.
no subject
I'm sure he's happy to have a place to put them that's more organized.
[Daisy says, glancing briefly at Astrid and smiling in amusement as she raises her fist to her mouth to chew on it.]
Is this the only job you'll have until it's over?
no subject
[ It's all he can manage to say with his mouth full again. He bounces Astrid on his knee as he chews and she laughs happily, arms flailing. Once he swallows, he adds, ]
So I won't be coming back midday to eat for awhile.

Taking another sip of her tea before setting it down beside her, her expression falls a little. Ever since he started working again, she’s enjoyed seeing him at lunch.]
Then I guess I’ll have to start packing you your lunches. You can’t work on an empty stomach.
no subject
[ He can see and hear her mood drop a little at this information, but it can't be helped. As long as he has the strength to work, he wants to. The pension helps and is there to reward their country's soldiers whether they come back injured or not, but it's not a hefty sum. He wants their family to have all they want. ]
It's only a few miles off and there are many here who can help you if there's any trouble while I'm away.
[ In case that fact worries her. ]
no subject
I’m not worried about that.
[And as much as she doesn’t want to appear like she’s coddling him she feels it’s only fair to clarify to him what her concerns actually are.]
I just don’t want you to overwork yourself. I know it’s different now, for all of us, but once she’s a little bigger I planned on looking for some work too. Jobs where I can take her with me.
no subject
I am not yet that old, am I? I can handle the work.
[ Joric isn't as concerned about his health as she is. ]
I'm sure we can put her to work early too. [ He leans forward to grab Astrid's attention. ] Can't we? Will you swing a hammer or an axe?
no subject
Oh, so only you're allowed to be concerned for me?
[Daisy asks teasingly. Astrid is staring at the chickens before Joric gets her attention, and she babbles in response. Which makes Daisy laugh,]
Maybe when she has better control of her hands.
[Considering she's swinging them around wildly right now in excitement at Joric talking to her.]
no subject
[ His answering smile causes the skin around his eyes to crinkle. He may not be old but he's lived a fuller life than some so far and his face shows it. ]
Hm, it seems so. She'll have to be the one in charge giving orders then.
no subject
[Daisy mumbles dryly, not looking entirely impressed by that. However his smile quickly has her smiling as well, because how can she stay mad when he does that?]
She already does.
no subject
[ He looks at Astrid as he says it, often having one-sided conversations with her like this. The baby seems to find his tone or his face funny and she giggles in response. Joric stuffs the rest of his sandwich in his mouth and chews with exaggeration for her amusement. ]
What sort of work do you think you would want to do?
[ Now directed at his wife. He knows this land is as far from the technology she was used to working with as could be. ]
no subject
[Daisy teases, smile widening at Astrid's giggles. Reaching over she fixes her hair, brushing it back so it's not on her forehead.]
I don't know.
[She admits, overwhelmed by the choices that seem so out of her league of skills.]
Just something that gets me out of the house part time.
no subject
People often need a hand with things.
[ He doesn't sound too worried that she won't find anything. ]
no subject
I'm sure I'll find something.
no subject
Mm hm. And now I'm afraid I must hand her off and get back to work. I'll see you two for dinner.
[ He presses a kiss to the top of Astrid's head before lifting her off his knee to give back to Daisy. ]
no subject
We'll see you later.
[But when he gets done with work for the day, he'll find Daisy walking back from the market. Astrid wrapped against her chest, she's carrying a few things she had grabbed there and beams when she spots Joric.]
Hey.
no subject
[ He could do with a bath after the labor he's done, but hopefully he doesn't smell so bad as to be denied a kiss that he leans down for. It also gives him the opportunity to take what she's carrying off her hands. ]
Find everything?
